Bi-Fold Door Systems
We know that control of air flow is the most important safety factor in underground mining. Air pressure, temperature, and the presence of harmful gases like methane, carbon dioxide, or nitrogen dioxide all must be regulated in order to provide as safe an atmosphere as possible.
In order to minimize risk, most mines have a partitioned ventilation system. Different areas are sealed off from each other so that noxious gases don’t build up, and so that risk can be localized. Each specific area is monitored, and the least circulation we can have between different areas, the better for the health and safety of everyone involved.
Bi-Fold Doors Balance Pressure
Bi-Fold systems are the most commonly used in underground mining. The equalized design uses the air pressure to assist in operating the doors. Because one door swings one way, and the other swings the other way, there isn’t an imbalance of pressure whenever the doors need to be opened. This ensures that the doors are easy to open, even when pressure has built up on one side. It also ensures that the airflow doesn’t peak and produce more pressure at the point of entry into a different area of the underground mine complex. Bi-Fold systems are typically a great option for locations with up to 10” WG pressure.
Our Bi-Fold doors are available with either pneumatic or hydraulic actuation. Their durable frame allows for rotating assembly and transport from one area to another, which ensures the value of your investment over time, even as the needs of your mine change. A panel spanning the top of the door encloses all essential operation mechanisms in the safest place possible, which means that every door is independently operational.
We Offer Quality Construction and Customizable Options
In addition to our strategic, high-quality construction, we install all of our doors with control systems that put the safety in your hands. Our control packages include radar sensors, time delay relays, safety limit switches, and more. With Nema 4 enclosures, enclosed header options, and freestanding design, each door is fully equipped to operate either independently, or as part of your network.
Optional additions are available for all of our doors, including attached man doors–either sliding or rotating. Options also include a booster fan panel, a filler panel, and a louver damper. Check out our door configuration tool for more options, and to submit your request for a quote.
Our Bi-Fold system is specially formulated for the unique needs of underground mining systems. Bi-fold systems are the most commonly used partition system in underground mining because of the way that they balance airflow.
