Which Mine Door System Is Right for Your Work Site?
Because safety is such a high priority in the mining industry, it is essential to fit your work environment with mine doors that will answer to all possible workplace needs. Sometimes it can be difficult to know which door systems are suited best to certain environments. Here is a brief guide that can help you find the right mine doors for your work site.
Underground operation
Just about every mining site, of course, needs doors that were designed to work underground. Bi-fold door systems are most commonly used door systems for underground mining applications. They are built to operate in locations with up to 10” WG in pressure. Their bi-fold design allows both doors to swing in opposite directions upon opening, which maintains pressure balance and ensures that the doors are easy to open even when pressure has built up on one side.
Extra strength
In environments where atmospheric pressure exceeds 10” WG, mine doors must exhibit extra high strength. High pressure door systems are built withstand up to 20” WG in pressure. Rather than drawing on surrounding air pressure to assist in operating the doors, these doors are operated with heavy duty welded hydraulic actuators and built-in load holding valves for reliable operation.
Versatility
Many environments require highly specific pressure door configurations. That is why we offer customization of all of our mine door system options. Our bi-fold door systems, for example, can be fitted with custom door control systems, personnel doors, a booster fan panel, filler panel, louver damper, and more. Our high pressure door systems, meanwhile, can also be customized in terms of door control, safety features, and personnel access. Our bulkhead systems feature bolt-in panels for multiple configuration options.
Mobility
Need a door system that you can transport as your needs and location change? Our mine door systems can be optimized for transport. Our bi-fold systems and bulkhead systems, for example, feature a rotating frame that allows for rotating assembly and transport from one area to another. Our high pressure door systems, meanwhile, are available in a freestanding design for easy transport.
Personnel access
Personnel access is available with all of our door systems offerings. Door systems can be fitted with sliding or rotating personnel doors. These personnel doors feature cap lamp sensors, photo eye assemblies, safety limit switches, and more for optimal safety.
Water control
Water control remains a primary concern in the mining industry. Bulkhead systems can provide a barrier between slurry or impounded water and active mine work. They function much like dams to contain water and other liquid-like mine waste.
